Chemistry Education
Welcome to the Group of Chemistry Education at the University of Hamburg
In the group of chemistry education, we focus on teaching and learning science in different age groups. We are particularly interested in early science education. Thus, we conduct research on science-specific learning environments in preschool and at home and further how these learning opportunities influence the development of basic science knowledge and interest of children in preschool age. Knowledge about early educational processes is important because for example general and domain-specific competencies of young children are regarded as highly relevant to educational processes in school.
Preschool and school teachers’ professional competencies are considered to be an important factor influencing learning environments. Our research explores the development and the effects of professional competencies of preschool and school teachers on instructional quality and learning processes of the children in the context of science education.
In addition to empirical research, we are also involved in developing and implementing learning environments for preschoolers and students or in the context of professional development. These learning environments are often linked with the research projects.
