About us
The Faculty of Education’s Knowledge Exchange Office (TEWi) sees itself as an interface between research and educational practice. We support researchers in the faculty with advice, coordination, and opportunities for further qualifications when designing knowledge-exchange related (research) activities and collaboration with practitioners. In turn, we are also the port of call for practitioners interested in cooperation.
In line with the faculty’s knowledge exchange mission, we get involved when the knowledge exchange activities of our researchers and students are realized in cooperation with practitioners.
For researchers
Advice, coordinating cooperation projects, networking, specialist knowledge exchange debate
With its expertise in knowledge exchange, the Knowledge Exchange Office offers research and teaching staff advice on both formal and substantive matters, and referrals when it comes to planning, realizing, and wrapping up knowledge exchange activities. We see ourselves as a knowledge exchange office, with the requisite expertise. Researchers have the expertise and bear responsibility for the actual research topics, projects, and findings.
What we offer:
- referrals to suitable contacts within the University of Hamburg
- subject-specific advice on knowledge exchange activities and cooperation with practitioners:
- planning: developing ideas, knowledge exchange concept, knowledge exchange in educational discourse; project structure with partnering practitioners, transdisciplinary cooperation
- implementation: impact and continuity, communication measures, stumbling blocks
- completion: science and research communication, dissemination, impact-oriented evaluation, and follow-up perspectives
- literature database on knowledge exchange research in educational discourse
- communication about knowledge exchange activities and social impact (faculty newsletter, advice on communication measures for larger knowledge exchange projects)
- advice on external qualification opportunities and, if required, realizing internal offers

Information, expertise, guidance
We guide you and provide you with perspectives from research and from practice. We get involved when knowledge exchange activities conducted by researchers and students are realized together with practitioners. We refer external cooperation projects to the right contacts or provide support during the development of suitable forms of cooperation.
For prospective external cooperation partners, we offer the following:
- Information: We provide information about the many knowledge exchange activities in the Faculty of Education.
- Expertise: We help you find the right research contact, for example, if you are looking for a talk or scientific guidance.
- Cooperation: We clarify and refer your project, where possible, to researchers in the faculty.
- Research concerns if you are a school or educational institution: Where possible, we help you find a research contact or cooperation, for example, within the context of a seminar.

There are different types of funding for the faculty’s knowledge exchange activities, including:
The University of Hamburg’s Knowledge Exchange Fund
The University of Hamburg’s funding line provides seed financing for inter- or transdisciplinary research projects that produce a clear knowledge exchange product. Learn more.

Foundations

The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space and the German Research Foundation
The German Research Foundation funds individual and joint knowledge exchanges (more information here) and knowledge exchange projects in collaborative research centers; the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space also has calls for funding programs focusing on knowledge exchange.
