Youth in Transition project meeting in Hamburg in October 2019
As part of the Erasmus+ Youth in Transition project, representatives of the partner organizations from four countries (Iceland, Denmark, Slovenia and Germany) met at the IBW's premises in Hamburg from 15 to 17 October 2019 to present interim results and plan further developments. The IBW of the University of Hamburg assumes the role of quality assurance within the framework of the project (cf. Youth in transition (YiT) towards vocational maturity). Even outside the tight schedule, the participants spent a lot of time together. The employees of the IBW provided an evening program that offered all participants the opportunity to get to know Hamburg better and to exchange experience. The meeting was characterized by lively exchange and interesting results.
Within the framework of the project, which has been running since October 2018, strategies (intellectual outputs = IOs) are being developed to identify young people in difficult phases of their lives (so-called NEETs = not in education, employment or training) and to open up new perspectives in education or work. On the one hand, the project is aimed at mentors (= scouts), for example social workers, career counsellors and teachers and on the other hand, at the young people mentioned. The three national versions of a digital counselling tool developed in the project are currently being tested (IO2, IO3). It serves to structure resource-oriented dialogues between mentors and young people to analyze the development stage of vocational maturity and to plan reasonable development steps. Further planned project results are:
- Report on the needs of the NEETs (IO1),
- A competence profile for mentors (IO4),
- mentor training (IO5),
- Findings about successful development paths (IO6) as well as
- Recommendations for decision-makers (IO7).
The next meeting will take place in Iceland in May 2020 to discuss, among other things, the results of the test phases.
