Courses & Study programmes
The members of research group “Migration and Education” offer courses in the following degree programmes at the Faculty of Education:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme in ‘Educational Science’,
- all teacher training programmes (primary and secondary schools, special education)
- Interdisciplinary programme “Multilingualism and Education/Master of Multilingual Educational Linguistics – MOTION” (programme director Prof. Dr. Drorit Lengyel)
In each winter term, the research group also organizes a lecture series on “Intercultural Education,” which is open to the general public as well (see public lecture series offered by the University of Hamburg).

The course programme was developed, tested and evaluated as part of the ProfaLe project led by Prof. Dr Drorit Lengyel in interdisciplinary collaboration with Prof. Dr Kristin Bührig, Linguistics of German as a Second and Foreign Language (Faculty of Humanities), as well as with a range of subject-specific didactics: from the STEM-subjects up to social sciences, history education as well as physical education, music and arts.

The Master’s programme ‘Multilingualism and Education / MOTION: Multilingual Educational Linguistics (M.A.)’ is an interdisciplinary and research-oriented programme offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities. At a high academic level, the programme imparts theoretical and empirical knowledge as well as the ability to reflect critically on multilingualism and its multifaceted and complex links to education in formal, non-formal and informal contexts.

Since 2009, our research group has been a partner in the HORIZONTE scholarship programme for pre-service teachers from immigrant families. Founded by the non-profit Hertie Foundation, it is led by the Claussen-Simon Foundation since 2016 for pre-service teachers at the University of Hamburg in collaboration with the Jürgen Sengpiel Foundation and the Dürr Foundation. Another partner is the Network ‘Teachers with a Migration Histories’ run by the State Institute for Qualification and Quality Development in Schools Hamburg (LI Hamburg).
