Meta project "Language Education in the Immigrant Society"

There is solid evidence regarding effective language education approaches and methods for using multilingual resources. But how can these be introduced into schools? And how can all children and young people benefit from them?

The meta project project brings together the work of 21 funded sub-projects on language education in an immigrant society and disseminates the project findings to a wider audience in a way that is tailored to the target groups.

MARE - Multiliteracy as a Labour Market Resource

Literacy skills in multiple languages (=multiliteracy) can be an asset for educational success and professional life.

MARE conducts basic research, asking the following questions:

What skills make up multiliteracy?
Under what circumstances is multiliteracy acquired?
How does multiliteracy affect opportunities in the labour market?

MARE also generates transferable knowledge for job placement and continuing professional development.

Tutoring for All

Many primary school pupils have fallen behind in their academic language development due to school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. How can we support these children so that they can keep up in mainstream classes?

This project adapts a US programme, which has been evaluated as effective, to German language and tests it in selected primary schools.

DiCoT - Diversity Contexts in Teacher Education

Measures of internationalization shall prepare future teachers for their everyday working life, which is increasingly determined by cultural and linguistic diversity.

To this end, we develop, test and institutionalize an innovative concept for the orientation internship module of our teacher training degrees.
