"International Teacher Training"
With a view to promoting the internationalisation of teacher training across all stages in Hamburg, the Faculty of Education has established the ‘International im Lehramt’ network in collaboration with the Department for European and International Affairs of the Authority for Schools and Vocational Education and Training.
Who can join the network?
The network aims to encourage the exchange of experiences between students and trainee teachers, thereby creating a space for networking and mutual inspiration. Furthermore, it aims to highlight ways in which these topics can be put into practice in the classroom.
Are you studying to become a teacher at the University of Hamburg and have you completed a study-related placement abroad? Are you currently on a teaching placement at a school in Hamburg and would like to incorporate the theme of internationality more effectively into your lessons? Are you already teaching at a school and have carried out projects with pupils relating to other countries? Or are you working as a teacher in the international school service? Then this network is the right place for you!
What does the network offer?
As a member of the network, you will receive three newsletters a year. These contain, for example, information on current calls for proposals and application deadlines for programmes supporting international school projects, as well as announcements about upcoming network events. In addition, alumni share their experiences and insights into successful study abroad placements or school projects with an international focus. These different perspectives are intended to serve as guidance and inspiration for your own project implementation. You can subscribe to the newsletter here and thus join the network.
Through the network events, we aim to further build connections in a relaxed setting with an entertaining programme of activities and culinary offerings, whilst creating a space for personal exchange.
Membership is free of charge.

Context of Origin
The network was established as part of the Diversity Contexts in Teacher Education project. The project aimed to internationalise the orientation placement module within teacher training programmes, to embed international and diversity-related topics structurally within teacher training, and to promote cross-phase internationalisation of teacher education in Hamburg. The project is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
