Coming to Hamburg

Are you interested in a research stay as a visiting scholar or a guest lectureship at the Faculty of Education? Then please learn more about the faculty's research priorities, research topics, and research in its various departments.

To promote internationalization in research and teaching at the Faculty of Education, the faculty welcomes international visiting scholars. A prerequisite for a research stay at the faculty is an invitation from a professor at the faculty.

Guest status, guest agreement, and information sheet

The inviting professor then submits an application for guest status to the Dean's Office of the faculty. The inviting professor must provide the guest with the information sheet no later than the start of their stay in Hamburg.

For guest stays exceeding three months or when applying for user credentials, a guest agreement must also be concluded between the guest and the Dean's Office. Two copies of the guest agreement, signed by the guest, are forwarded to the Dean's Office by the inviting professor.

The Welcome Service for international visiting scholars supports international researchers – including doctoral candidates – during their stay at the University of Hamburg.

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme, academic staff and early-career researchers from Erasmus partner universities may be eligible for financial support for a short-term teaching mobility at the Faculty of Education, Universität Hamburg.

The aim of these Erasmus+ short-term teaching assignments is to promote the internationalisation of teaching and learning at both Universität Hamburg and the partner institution. They also serve to strengthen existing collaborations between the institutions and to foster sustainable academic networks.

If you are interested in undertaking a short-term teaching assignment at the Faculty of Education, please contact the relevant academic department or research unit within our faculty. Once you have received an invitation from a member of the Faculty of Education, you can apply for Erasmus+ funding for your stay through your home institution.

Would you like to gain insight into a field comparable to your own at the Faculty of Education?

Then we encourage you to apply for an Erasmus+ job shadowing placement with us.

The aim of the Erasmus+ Job Shadowing Programme is to provide participants with insights into a comparable area of work at the Faculty of Education, Universität Hamburg. This may include gaining experience in administrative units, academic departments, the library, IT services, or other relevant areas.

During your stay, you will observe and participate in the day-to-day work of your host department, gaining valuable insights and practical experience for your own professional development. Job shadowing also offers an excellent opportunity to build international networks, explore different approaches to work, and share the knowledge and ideas you gain with colleagues at your home institution.

If you are interested in learning more about a department or service comparable to your own at the Faculty of Education, please contact the Erasmus Coordination Office of the Faculty of Education with information about your professional interests and the type of visit you are seeking. We will then approach the relevant departments on your behalf. Once your visit has been approved, you can apply for Erasmus+ funding through your home institution.

Some Staff Training Weeks (STWs) are specialized and aimed at specific groups, while others cover a broad range of topics and provide insights into various university departments.

The main advantage of an STW is that a structured program is already in place, and the host institution is prepared to welcome international guests. This makes it easy to build additional contacts. STWs also offer a valuable opportunity to meet colleagues from different universities, encouraging idea exchange and networking. They typically last five days, and the working language is usually English.
