Coordination Office for Multilingualism and Language Education
The Coordination Office for Multilingualism and Language Education (KoMBi) coordinates the research projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the research framework Language Education and Multilingualism. Among its many activities, it supports the internal exchange of experiences, fosters contacts across thematically related national and international research projects, supports public relations and the dissemination of results for educational policy and practice, and offers coordinated qualification courses for early career researchers and for the establishment of a sustainable data management strategy.
Together with the funded projects, we aim to build upon empirical knowledge about multilingualism and language education and to create excellent and extensive research opportunities. Apart from the research projects’ individual results, we provide knowledge about successful processes of multilingualism development and the conditions under which this occurs. The participating projects will reveal the potential of social and individual multilingualism as well as obstacles to its development. KoMBi combines and disseminates this expertise.
We see ourselves as partners of the funded projects, with which we form a network; we thus define our tasks in dialogue with the participants. Only together can we contribute to the strengthening of the core research area and the recognition of multilingualism as a social resource.
