WERA Visiting Researcher from Myanmar

Cherry Zin Oo is a lecturer at Myanmar Imperial College and a PhD graduate from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. Her research focuses on teacher education, assessment literacy, professional development, and large-scale assessment, with a particular interest in mixed-methods research and multilevel modelling.
She has actively engaged in research and scholarly publishing, contributing to high-impact journals. Additionally, she supports the academic community as a reviewer for several leading journals in education and assessment.
Over the years, Cherry has received recognition for her academic work and leadership, including the BERA Early Career Researcher (ECR) Career Development Fellowship and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Research Student Award.
As the recipient of the 2025 WERA Visiting Researcher Award, she will arrive in Hamburg on Oktober 6th, 2025, and spend two months at IEA Hamburg and the University of Hamburg. During this time, she will undertake two projects. At IEA Hamburg, she will analyse data from PIRLS 2021 to explore the student- and school-level factors influencing reading achievement in Germany. At the University of Hamburg, she will work with the MEZ (Mehrsprachigkeitsentwicklung im Zeitverlauf) dataset to examine the multilingual development of students within the German education system.
Cherry looks forward to learning from diverse perspectives, building new research connections, and exploring how international data can inform local educational solutions.
