LiDS Lunch Lecture „Partnering for quality education research: Evidence that matters in extreme adversity“ on June 18, 2026 from 12:15 to 01:45 pm in room 05, Von-Melle-Park 8.
Education policy and practice are informed by the global knowledge base that privileges evidence from the Global North and Eurocentric lenses. This raises the question of whether this knowledge base is truly relevant and adequate for the information of education policy and practices in globally marginalised spaces. In this LiDS Lunch Lecture Prof. Liebel Ebersöhn (University of Pretoria) presents the TAPESTRe framework. This framework is proposed as an instrument for equalising the uneven global knowledge base and as a model for transformative, emancipatory educational research, aiming at agentic justice and participatory academic collaboration. This lecture sheds light on which evidence truly matters and how relevant, responsible and responsive evidence-based education policy and practice can be achieved.
