Aging populations, urbanization and migration are increasingly contributing to demographic change and leading to a growing number of older people in multilingual cities. Until now, their language use has been studied primarily in the context of migration. However, it is also becoming apparent that native speaking groups use other languages in order to actively participate in urban life . Anyone who has been to Berlin in recent years will certainly have noticed the strong presence of the English language. LiDS Early Career Researcher Katharina Gensch examines how older people react to this perceived increase in English in their urban environment in her article "English language education for older adults in a multilingual urban environment".
