„Language policy and grassroots initiatives in minority language education in Russia“ on June 04, 2026, from 12:15 to 01:45 p.m. in Room 213 of Von-Melle-Park 8.
This LiDS Lunch Lecture examines minority language education in Russia amid increasing centralization, focusing on grassroots initiatives. Dr. Vlada Baranova who is currently a visiting researcher at the University of Hamburg at the Institute of Finno-Ugric/ Uralic Studies will share insights to her study and present the findings. These reveal hidden resistance among teachers and parents alongside growing grassroots initiatives despite a decline in minority-language classes and intensified russification since 2018. These findings shed light on how grassroots efforts continue to reshape education by fostering participation and more flexible learning practices.
The lecture will be held in English.
