Prof. Dr. Freydis Vogel, Sebastian Tews, and Maya Persico from the working group Digital Education had the opportunity to present their research at this year's European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) conference held in Graz, Austria from August 25-29, 2025. The conference theme, "Realising Potentials through Education: Shaping the Minds and Brains for the Future," attracted nearly 3,000 international researchers to the University of Graz.
While Freydis Vogel organized various sessions, Sebastian Tews presented findings on the ability of pre-service teachers to engage in video-based collaborative diagnostic reasoning (CDR) during the poster session "Teaching practices in different domains and settings." The stimulating discussions during the poster session led, among other things, to further talks on future international research collaborations. Maya Persico presented her international collaborative project with researchers from Indiana University Bloomington (USA) and Freydis Vogel from the University of Hamburg for the first time. Her presentation on "The use of generative AI in collaborative learning: A scoping review" fit perfectly among three other contributions to the symposium "The use of generative AI models in learning and instruction: A collection of systematic reviews" by Freydis Vogel and Cindy Hmelo-Silver. The presentation was well attended despite the early time slot. Several participants requested presentation slides and engaged in in-depth discussions following the symposium.
